The location is excellent on a quiet clean beach. So if you're looking for peace and quiet, this is the place to be. It is just as beautiful as Nungwi but without the crowd and bars and noise. Though we did go to Nungwi for a sunset cruise which made us appreciate Matweme beach even more. Resort was easy to locate as it was well marked from the main road. The staff were excellent and welcoming. Very helpful in planning for things to do and booking transport. Rooms are basic but spacious, clean and with AC and fan and hot water. Beds were comfy. A clean small pool that has a baby pool. They have a generator that ran even the A/C so we were not inconvenienced by the frequent blackouts. Breakfast was okay..fruits, eggs, pancakes bread and butter, fresh juice and they made ma adrican tea. So definitely recommend it for families and anyone looking for peace and quiet.

Wow! I was blown away by my wonderful stay at Marafiki. The staff were all SO lovely. The food at the restaurant was excellent. We were upgraded to the villa for our 4 night stay and it absolutely exceeded expectations. The spa services provided by Happiness were FANTASTIC! I cannot more highly recommend Marafiki, particularly if you're looking for a more relaxed experience.

The beach was quiet and peaceful, not too crowded and exceptional hands-on service.
All the staff were very friendly and helpful. However, Farah and Moosa definitely stood out, they were always there anytime I needed anything, even catered to accommodate me with my phobia (don’t think every resort/hotel would’ve done that), I will forever be grateful for them.
Judy is an amazing masseuse! Visiting the spa is a must! The food was very good and you have to try yoga with Farah, very relaxing and she has a very soothing energy.

It’s very quiet, very few non hotel restaurants, overpriced food everywhere, can’t swim in the sea unless you don’t mind knee deep water. There’s no town, or town centre outside the beach hotels, so a long stay would be challenging if you want more than just lounging by the hotel pool.

Matemwe and its area is a quiet place where you can relax and enjoy the beach, the activities (snorkeling, swimming with dolphins) especially if you are a couple, because the village is not very full of enterteinments or night parties.

Crystal clear water - despite there being sea urchins - if you have rock/ aqua shoes - you can still swim and explore the waters and reefs.
The beaches are a lot quieter and peaceful than the busier beaches up north.
The tides are also fascinating to watch- you can walk out to the reefs and cycle along the beaches when they go out!

Marafiki gets a 10/10 from us on all fronts - breakfast, lunch, dinner, pool, cleanliness, hospitality, music, sustainability, beach, communication.
My husband and I stayed 4 nights at Marafiki after our Safari and had the most fabulous time. The rooms were very clean and quiet, and beautifully set up.
The food is exceptional - please try the tuna tartar and all the specials!
We had a relaxing time at the spa - you must try the full body scrub and massages.
We used the free kayaks during sunset and enjoyed the stunning view from the water. The water is shallow so even if you go far, you can get off the kayak and swim.
Since the hotel is east facing - sunrise is exceptionally beautiful. The water is still and shallow, and you can see all the fisherman walk up to the reef to catch the fish.
The hotel also arranged a cooking lesson in Matamwe village for us - we learned how to cook ‘muchuzi’ from scratch which was a very meaningful experience.
Overall- no negatives. We had the best time and will be back!

The beach is beautiful, but it's not really a beach you can swim on - there's a big tidal range - when it comes in it's quite choppy with lots of seaweed, and when it's out its corally with lots of urchins. But it's interesting to watch the local people looking for octopus and shellfish every day.
It's quite a quiet area - all the bars are part of hotels. A few nice local restaurants around. Quite a lot of beach touts, which we found off putting. Not loads of activities to do in the area - 1/2 day snorkelling/dolphin watching trips at Mnemba Island basically.
This is my first trip to Zanzibar and I decided to start with Mnemba island and hence Matemwe Magic hotel is what I chose! I couldn’t have asked for anything more! Perfect in all ways. The staff is so polite and friendly. They understand you and take care of your requirements.
The rooms are clean and spacious and it feels amazinggg and most importantly safe! Coz I am a solo traveler.
I would totally recommend this hotel for all travelers coming to Zanzibar and especially plan their itinerary which includes Mnemba island!
Excellent choice in Zanzibar! Perfect location, good beach hotel with all the commodities and not too busy, super comfortable and clean, good taste decoration, good relation price/quality. In Zanzibar the access to the beach is not easy because the coast line is almost completely blocked by hotels and resorts, and Matemwe was in fact one of the best beaches we found in Zanzibar. Near to busier north end of Nungwi, easy access to Stone Town and good departure point for boat trips, for snorkeling ou scubadiving, in Mnemba.
This was our third stop on the island after Stone Town and Nungwi. We enjoyed the laid back atmosphere of the area and the hotel itself. We actually hardly left the hotel grounds because it was that accomodating. The pool and seating right at the beachfront were plenty and comfortable with enough shade. We were there on Wednesday when there was live music. Band was really nice. Food and drinks were good. The guys working the bar and tables were also all very friendly.
Rooms were large and clean.
If you’re looking for a peaceful haven with great comfort and completely quite vibes this is the place to be. Then again most people who head to Matemwe head there for the quiet. It’s closely located to the beach and the owner is very helpful . They have little notes of guidelines inside the rooms and also have tide timings across the day which is super helpful if you want to swim.
The breakfast was delicious with home made jams and baked stuff . Overall it’s a very peaceful vibe.
The place was amazing, the hotel was really authentic and I really liked the vibe. It’s perfect for solo travellers and families as well. The staff was extremely kind and friendly. The bungalows were clean and they provided all the necessary amenities for a perfect and comfortable stay. The breakfast and the dishes were exceeded my expectations, everything was really delicious. Absolutely can recommend HEBE Bungalows and hope I can come back one day!
The room overlooking the ocean was fabulous. The food is absolutely fantastic, probably the best that we’ve eaten on our tropical holidays. Just so good.
But, it’s the staff who make this just so wonderful. They are friendly but discreet, skilled but at ease. The best of Zanzibar. The beach is super for long walks and runs. The beach boys are respectful and do not insist once they know that you are not a potential customer.
The hotel is located right on the beach, one of the most beautiful beach in Zanzibar. The rooms are bungalow type, very spacious and clean. You can spend your free time reading a book in the hammock, by the pool or on the sunbeds by the hotel’s beach. The traditional seafood dish was a delight. Upon arrival I received a plate of fruit and a wonderful natural juice from the house.
I had a brilliant stay!
The environment is authentic and breathtaking.
The villa is cozy and clean. Ideal to be or to work as I did.
After my shorter working day, I was able to enjoy aquatic sports, great diving spot close by, fallowed by meal or drinks :)
Owners are very helpful and friendly and they have a deep knowledge of Zanzibar.
I will definitely come back! Thank you!
We had a very nice time in Hebe lodge. Very cozy and comfortable place , nice atmosphere, stuff were always so helpful and attentive, all food we tried was very fresh and delicious, nice cocktails and breakfast. Located in front of the beach. We also booked a tour with a hotel, was well organized. Owner and stuff of the hotel are very friendly and approachable. Highly recommend!
one of the best hotels for this price, you won’t regret it.
beautiful hotel
great staff, always helping, supporting. very friendly.
good prices for food, drinks, massage
very quite place, not a party area
beautiful white sand beach. looks amazing during high tide. very lonely, almost no other people.
everything is very tidy, clean
food is good / decent, but nothing special
The hotel is comfortable and aesthetic, and it's in a absolutely beautiful location. I really enjoyed the breakfasts, and the dinners were tasty too, big portions! But the thing that made it all beyond wonderful is the staff. They are attentive and kind, and they really made us feel at home. I would definitely reconsider it.
The staff is friendly and welcoming and Malgo & Tomek are the best! Genuinely interested in their visitors and will go out of their way to ensure your comfort.
The facility is very clean and well kept. I also really liked that the beach in Matemwe is relatively clean and no one hustling for buys.
We had a lovely stay at the Zanzibar retreat. The food is fantastic (we ate almost every meal at the hotel), the beachfront is beautiful, and the staff is very friendly. The room had AC and was very comfortable. The perfect place to spend a couple of days enjoying Zanzibar and relaxing.
Delicious breakfast
Location on the beach, stunning
Event program every day, quite nice to bring some vibes to the place without being too noisy
Free upgrade proposed by the owner
Touring the village Matemwe during the day to meet locals
Lodge supervisor was super friendly
The owners of the place were wonderful people. Really committed in providing the best possible experience for their guests. The location was great and the small hotel was built with the intention of providing quality hospitality but with maintaining the local colour.
really clean, small and personal. lovely beach short walk to metemwe to have bite to eat, watch fishermen or to use other hotel for the day. staff really welcoming. laid back atmosphere - the true Zanzibar way :) Plenty of pool space for guests.
Very clean, well kept, small hotel that provides a heaven of peace and privacy in Zanzibar. Staff very attentive. Held by a family who cares about the facility like their home. Good food at the restaurant. 1min walk to the beach. Good value.
Lot of amenities are free of charge - bikes, badminton, yoga, village tour… also it feels pretty private on the beach comparing to other (5star) hotel we stayed in while in Zanzibar. Great value for money.
